Basic Adjustments (CT)

Basic Adjustments workspace and how to use it

Basic Adjustm. workspace is the main workspace for Lightroom Classic when using develop module. It contains all the necessary adjustments and actions from Lightroom Classic's basic panel.

Dials

Dials contain two pages. First dial page is for adjusting the tone and the second dial page is for fine tuning the tone. Some adjustments on the first page are considered more for fine tuning, but they have been selected for the first page because they are (or should be) more used than the adjustments on the second page.

As all dials can be pressed down like a button, they have been assigned with a reset function setting the corresponding dial adjustment back to the original value (usually zero).

First dial page (Tone Adjustments):

  • Temperature: Adjust the main white balance value (tint is on the second page)
  • Exposure: Adjust overall luminance of the image
  • Contrast: Fix the overall contrast of the image (also affects color contrast)
  • Highlights: Usually used for reducing areas which are too bright
  • Shadows: Usually for opening up shadow areas
  • Texture: Make surfaces rougher or smoother (e.g. skin or wall structure) (finer than clarity)

Second dial page (Tone Fine Tune):

  • Tint: Fine tune white balance's hue *
  • Vibrance: Add more saturation **
  • Dehaze: Fix haziness (affects only to "hazed areas", does not affect "non-hazed" colors)
  • Whites: Adjust histograms white point
  • Blacks: Adjust histograms black point
  • Clarity: Adjusts "surface structure/contrast" areas (rougher than texture)

* Temperature and Tint are assigned for the same dial but different pages, so that it is easy to switch between the adjustment by swiping the screen vertically.
Tip! If you don't need a reset function for Temperature or Tint - assign the opposite page (link) to the dial press. This way you can switch between Temperature and Tint by pressing the dial.

** Vibrance is preferred over Saturation because it takes into account the amount of individual saturations enhancing only the colors which are not yet saturated enough. Vibrance does not affect the colors which are already well saturated and is also much more subtle with skin tones!

Touch Buttons

Touch buttons are also divided into two pages. First page is assigned with most used tools and functions and the second page is for develop presets.
Tip! change the predefined develop presets from the second page to your own most used ones.

Top row:

  • Virtual Copy (makes a copy of your image)
  • Page links:Tool Selector Wheel, Basic Panel Wheel and Develop Presets touch page.

Middle row:

  • Spot Removal tool
  • Paste From Previous (pastes image adjustments from previous image)
  • Copy Develop Settings: Copy based on a predefined adjustment list
  • Paste Develop Settings

Bottom row:

  • Adjustment Brush: for making localized adjustments (e.g. more exposure to a face)
  • Radial filter: for making radial shaped localized adjustments
  • Graduated filter: for making gradual localized adjustments (e.g. sky area)

Wheel

Wheel's main function is to navigate the image strip - rotating the wheel ring you can go forward or backwards. In addition the touch screen works as a sub menu for the wheel giving access to different kind of tool sets:

  • Tone Curve: Opens Tone Curve adjustments (as a list) to the wheel
  • Noise Reduction: Opens NR adjustmentss (as a list) to the wheel
  • Sharpening: Opens Sharpening adjustments (as a list) to the wheel
  • Vignetting: Opens Vignetting adjustments (as a list) to the wheel

A Rating Wheel page is also available, if you need to change image rating while editing - it is the last wheel page and can be accessed by swiping from left to right when Tool Selector Wheel is active.
