Basic Adjustments (Live)

Basic Adjustm. workspace and how to use it

Dials

Dials contain two pages. First dial page is for adjusting the tone and the second dial page is for fine tuning the tone. Some adjustments on the first page are considered more for fine tuning, but they have been selected for the first page because they are (or should be) more used than the adjustments on the second page.

As all dials can be pressed down like a button, they have been assigned with a reset function setting the corresponding dial adjustment back to the original value (usually zero).

First dial page (Tone Adjustments):

  • Temperature: Adjust the main white balance value (tint is on the second page)
  • Exposure: Adjust overall luminance of the image
  • Contrast: Fix the overall contrast of the image (also affects color contrast)
  • Highlights: Usually used for reducing areas which are too bright
  • Shadows: Usually for opening up shadow areas
  • Texture: Make surfaces rougher or smoother (e.g. skin or wall structure) (finer than clarity)

Second dial page (Tone Fine Tune):

  • Tint: Fine tune white balance's hue *
  • Vibrance: Add more saturation **
  • Dehaze: Fix haziness (affects only to "hazed areas", does not affect "non-hazed" colors)
  • Whites: Adjust histograms white point
  • Blacks: Adjust histograms black point
  • Clarity: Adjusts "surface structure/contrast" areas (rougher than texture)

* Temperature and Tint are assigned for the same dial but different pages, so that it is easy to switch between the adjustment by swiping the screen vertically.
Tip! If you don't need a reset function for Temperature or Tint - assign the opposite page (link) to the dial press. This way you can switch between Temperature and Tint by pressing the dial.

** Vibrance is preferred over Saturation because it takes into account the amount of individual saturations enhancing only the colors which are not yet saturated enough. Vibrance does not affect the colors which are already well saturated and is also much more subtle with skin tones!
